We ARE seeing a few signs of Spring! And it's a welcome sight, believe me!
For one thing, the elk are back! There are VERY few calves- which is a disappointment and a concern, but at least, they are back.
Here is one of the lucky calves, who made it. :) The problem wasn't so much last Winter, but the Winter before.... when the cows were pregnant with these calves. That Winter was SO severe, and lasted so long, that many of the cows aborted, and the ones who DID give birth to calves, had low birth weight babies who just didn't survive. THIS Winter was much kinder to wildlife, and Bruce expects many healthy calves to be born this June... but there will definitely be a gap resulting from the Winter of 2010/2011.
We're seeing bucks again, too!
Just before hunting season starts in October, all the bucks magically disappear! I, for one, am glad.
AND my farrier shows up again!
Some things are just timeless. :)
