Putting the garden to bed

When Cade came home to celebrate his birthday, we put him to work!
He will tell you that this isn't unusual.... and he's right.
Cade knows this place like the back of his hand- he knows just what to do, and how everything works.  We've been putting him to work around here for a very long time, but I kinda think he enjoys it- at least a little bit.
Today, the garden needed to be put to bed- meaning the corn shocks needed to be cut and bound- the tomatoes, peppers, kohlrabi, cucumbers, and squash plants needed to be pulled. Raspberries needed to be cut back.
Beans, peas, onions had to be pulled.
Pretty much everything, other than the carrots and parsnips needed to be ripped out.
It will all be rototilled back into the soil.
and trellises, etc. had to be stacked and put away...
While out there, we gleaned what we could. Of course, the carrots and parsnips will weather Winter under a layer of straw, to give us fresh vegetables throughout Dec., Jan., etc.
but we found a few, tiny ears of Selkie's favorite treat! Corn!
She was very grateful.
We picked some carrots to send back to school with Cade.
and then, we put those corn shocks to good use!
Decorating the front porch!
Happy Fall!

Opening Day

Opening day of hunting season. It's cold, rainy, foggy, and miserable. Bruce is working check station, and he's soaked to the bone.
Opening day of hunting season. I've had 3-4 deer in my backyard ALL afternoon.
Opening day of hunting season. At least the deer know where to go.

So.... here's the deal update

A very courageous person just contacted me, letting me know that they are the one who inadvertently gave Bill Meadows the URL to this blog.  They did so because they were friends, and talking about wildlife, and because they enjoy my photos on the blog so much. They thought he would also, enjoy the photography. THEY did nothing wrong, and had no reason to suspect Bill would use the site for ammunition against Bruce.

Knowing how all this came about, makes me feel so much better.  And this person was just doing EXACTLY what I wanted people to do... what I'd encouraged people to do! and that was sharing the blog!  So- this little drama is closed. :)  I'm keeping the blog private, at least for awhile- just until I can get over the thought of Bill reading my posts, and peeking into our family's life.

Bless ALL of you for being such wonderful friends, and showing such support.

Hallowe'en is Coming!

If you're reading this blog, chances are you know me well enough to know I LOVE Hallowe'en!!!
Recently, I was trying to avoid doing some work that needed to be done, and I looked up Hallowe'en  on Google.  I found some of the COOLEST images!  some that just totally embody Hallowe'en- so, I thought I'd share them with you here (mainly so I have a spot where I can go to look at them :)

Happy Hallowe'en! :)

So.... here's the deal

You might be wondering why you can only access this site with an invitation.  If you've tried to get into the blog, without going through the email permission, you were turned away. At least that's how it's supposed to work.

It's not through some capricious whim that I decided to make this blog private- it's because there is a man in Thompson Falls who hates Bruce and is doing his damn-est to get him fired. Someone, for some reason, gave him the URL to this blog, and he has been photocopying pages and sending them to Bruce's boss. His attempts to rile up Jim Williams (Bruce's boss) have been in vain, BUT I feel incredibly violated.... knowing this person, who hates us so much, and is trying to hurt us, is reading my innermost feelings, and the events of our family's life.

And so... it's not because I want to exclude anyone other than this man.  In fact, if you have someone you know enjoys reading this blog, please send me their email, and I'll send them an invitation-  (like Ferguson's?, Helen...).  So, for now, anyway- the World Through Silvyr's Eyes is private- which is disappointing to me.

It's Coming!

Fall seems to be a bit late this year. Although the leaves are beginning to turn, there are quite a few green ones still on the branches.
We got our first hard freeze last night! And we were still eating yellow squash, tomatoes, peppers, peas and corn from the garden up until then!
But, I KNOW it's coming, so I've put out my Fall decorations...
and notice that every day the Tamaracks get a bit lighter, and the maples get a bit more colorful.
I love Autumn!

Working with Journey

Well- I'm getting better.
Or more likely, Journey is just being kind and humoring me :)
NOTE- This video has been unavailable for over a week now. If you want to see it, click on this YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1wzG7CHj5I&feature=feedu
AND- I just need to say- I've improved SO MUCH since Bruce took this video. It's a bit embarrassing, but interesting to see the improvement. :)
