We started out Cade's celebration day with huckleberry muffins. We weren't able to celebrate with him on his actual birthday, as he was presenting his Senior project, taking a mid-term, and handing in a paper on Oct. 17th.
But once we got him home, we fussed over him. The table was decorated with Hallowe'en plates, napkins, centerpiece, etc. The muffins were delicious (it's a really great recipe, btw).
THEN- we put him to work, as you saw in the previous post :)
But come dinnertime, we made him feel special!
Of course, we kept up with our "under-the-plate" tradition
and of course, he made out like a bandit!
Books, candy, gum, a Subway card, and some small odds and ends.
Dinner was AMAZING!
Cade asked for chicken enchiladas, Spanish rice, and refried beans. Dessert was a Mexican Chocolate pie. Mmmmm!
But before dessert, we retired to the living room for PRESENTS!
He was remembered by all- his brother and sister, his Aunt Candi, and of course... Bruce and I.
I got him a bread machine- which Bruce wasn't sure he'd like- but if he didn't, he was a mighty fine actor! We also, got him a sterling silver bracelet with Peace in many languages engraved on it, golf balls, and a really cool money clip.
And we gave him some money towards his trip to San Diego, as did his big brother, Cass, and his Aunt Candi and Uncle Ed. Cass, also, gave him a book "the Tao of Physics" which he seemed very excited about, and Chelsey gave him a gift card towards a set of special pens he needs to do his Landscape designs. He was extremely grateful, and touched by all his gifts.
FINALLY, time for dessert!
Bruce and I sang Happy Birthday, and made wishes while Cade blew out the candles.
One of the wishes might have been that I'd let the men take their pie into the living room, so they could watch the game. *sighs*
What could I do? Those wishes are pretty powerful.
Happy Birthday, dear boy.
We all love you so much!
You are the most incredible person I have ever known. So creative and never seem to run out of new adventures.
ReplyDeleteI am truly blessed to have you as a friend
Those enchiladas looked mighty good and so did the pie! I'd say Cade is one, lucky fellow... Happy Birthday, Cade!
